Nurses and birthdays

We went to NJ this weekend for a BBQ graduation party for Lou's sister and also, it was my birthday! (Lou got me an amazing new monitor, which I'll talk about later!)
She's in the nursing program, so I made her a lil nurse figurine in her likeness.

I'm thinking I'll probably make more of these gals soon. I really like the way they turn out. I just forget about them most of the time, being consumed with every other project idea. I need an ideas notebook!

Lou's mom got me a birthday cake like she does every year. She's so thoughtful.

On our way back to North Carolina, we made a stop in Maryland for gas and saw a truck on the corner selling crabs! We all said heck yes, and got in line. Of course, we didn't really think this plan out....seeing as we still had 3+ hours to drive. The three of us (Lou, his sister, and I) decided to share a half-bushel....which I learned is 48 crabs. And holy crap, 48 crabs is a lot!

They packed them in a big box with lots of extra seasoning. Lou had the pleasure of staring at the box in the back seat the whole way home. The worst part, was the entire car was wrapped in this delicious Old Bay crab smell. So we were just marinating in this delicious aroma the whole way home. It was torture!
At some point on our way, we got caught in bumper to bumper traffic, so we caved and each grabbed a crab leg. We must have looked like weirdos cracking crab claws out the car windows. Soooo worth it though.

I'm thinking I want to make some baked crab rangoon with some of the crab meat. Crab rangoon is my favorite, but I hate that it's fried. So we'll see how that goes.
