new prints!

I FINALLY got around to listing some art prints in my shop! I'm so excited to get them all listed, as I have piles and piles of illustrations waiting to be worked on. I'll be listing a couple a day, if all goes to plan. Just have to wait for another nice, sunny day to take some photos. It's been dreary and rain-tacular this past week!

Unemployed - Day 3

I came to a realization today. I was busily gathering information to send away samples of my work to piles of companies in hopes that one of them would notice me. I picked up a book I had sitting around about careers in commercial and graphic art. After flipping through it, I remembered these books are all the same. First I should ask myself do I want to go into fine art or commercial art, I should make a portfolio, I should send samples, I should send follow-up samples, then I should wish for a miracle. That's when I noticed the yellow star graphic on the front of the book.. "More than 2 million books sold!"

That's where the money is!! Not in making the art, but in selling bullshit books about getting careers in art. Man, it was right in front of my face all this time!

Eh, who am I kidding...back to the drawing board (no, really).

I'm out of tea.

I decided to start drinking more tea than coffee. There's just something about coffee that does horrible things to my stomach. Especially if I don't drink it for a couple of days and then start up again. Almost as if my body has to get used to it again. I haven't really found a tea that jolts me awake like coffee does yet, but I'm searching. Another plus to tea is I can drink it much easier without a creamer. And seeing as I'm a "starving artist" the chances of there being milk in the fridge are very slim. We have a powdered creamer, but I've noticed it says "May 2006" on the lid. I don't really want to deal with that situation just now. And powdered creamer is horrible anyways. Actually powdered creamer scares me a little. I just see it as this big container of chemicals. It can't be healthy for us.
I've been eyeing up some homemade tea by the etsy seller TeaNoir for some time now and finally decided to get myself this.


On another note, I finished coloring another picture! I think the scalloped edge makes it extra sweet. Maybe, I'm not sure. I love the way the colors came out. This is my "Chocolate Love" piece I mentioned earlier.

I'm starting to freak, a bit.

This upcoming week is my last week at the temp job I've been at for the last three months. I'm really sad to be leaving, but they don't really need me after the holidays. I'm really thankful for having experienced it though. I didn't even know what a typesetter was, or that it was even a job before this. But it's great to have that for my resume. It's very discouraging trying to find a job in my field when I have next to no experience aside from my Etsy shop and personal artwork and every job I see requires 3 to 5 years experience. Bite me.

So for that, I'm trying to push myself to build my portfolio.



Say hello to "Ice Cream Woes". The title is a work in progress. But I'm really happy with the way it came out...including the colors. Which is rare for me. Next in line is most likely my "Chocolate Love" piece. I think it might be perfect for Valentine's Day. We'll see....

Sometimes I draw things.

For some reason when my mom loaded a picture I drew and digitally colored for the stories she writes, it came out with strange inverted colors when she loaded it on her blog. I'm not a genious with rgb/cmyk colors, but I was pretty sure I colored it correctly for her blog. I loaded another picture of mine on my here blog to be sure I'm not a moron and the colors appear to look pretty spiffy to me. Hm...I don't know what happened.

On another note, this here drawing...I've titled it "Amibtious Knitter". I'm getting a little overwhelmed with the coloring though, in terms of background versus ball of yarn color. There's so many varieties I can make, that they're all starting to blur together and I'm not sure what looks good anymore. Also, I seem to have a problem where the only color I gravitate towards is green (for obvious reasons..) and I realize that I have to try to remember that not everyone has an obsession with the color green like I do. But then once I realize that, I'm lost. Pink and blue are nice colors also. (because they go nicely with green..)

God, and don't get me started with the girl's hair color, let alone her dress.

It's amazing how one entirely simple drawing can turn into so many questions that plague my mind.

Christmas, that is. Thank god it's over because I'm super tired. But I got the most amazing gifts. First off I got a 3 in 1 printer/scanner/copier which I'm so relieved to say will be wonderful for printing out my paypal shipping labels. I'd like to go to the post office as little as possible. It's a Lexmark brand, which I've heard isn't that great. But I'm not using it for high end stuff, so I should be fine. I haven't tried out the scanner yet, but I really hope it's decent because that brings into play my other gift. $600 in cold hard cash! I'm going to put it towards an Epson art printer so I can make prints of my artwork. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, the scanner attached to this Lexmark printer is capable of making decent scans of artwork.
Now I just have to jump on creating some more art!
Besides that stuff, I also got a mountain of beads (seriously, I'm not even joking), clay (also in mountain size), a pair of shoes (that don't fit as well as I'd hoped, I'll have to look into that), videogames, and a huge pots and pans set. Cool right? I was literally JUST talking with Lou about how I wish I had a nice new set of pots and pans and then my uncle goes and buys me some. He must be spying on me. But wait...that's not all...I also got a 26" flatscreen tv! I was a good girl this year, obviously.
And now it's time for some relaxation with the game Eternal Sonata that Lou was so kind as to aquire for me...on my spiffy new television.
