For those of you in your late 20s, you may remember what I like to call the REAL Polly Pocket toys. None of these larger dolls with their rubber clothing. What is that crap? My little sister had that crap. But I had the real deal. The compact-like clamshells that housed the teeny Polly Pocket and friends at barely an inch tall. Like the tiniest dollhouse you could literally fit in your pocket. Hello...Polly Pocket.
Why did they change the design anyways? What marketing genius thought a larger doll with interchangeable clothing and less portability was a good idea? Ok, it might be cool to kids who have never seen the original Polly Pocket.
In June, when I went to visit my parents, I had the joy (no really, no sarcasm! I haven't seen this stuff in years!) of going through all of my boxes upon boxes that I packed up when I went away to college years ago. And lo and behold, I found my Polly Pockets! I felt like a little kid again!
There's even a ring that comes out of the organ that you can wear! It barely fits over my pinkie. Too bad. See the bridesmaid behind the couple? And the cake with the table setting, and the DJ turntable section?!? I love this wedding-themed Polly Pocket. So many great details!!
I was really amazed that out of all this time passed, there was only one thing missing from all of my compacts. The dolphin from this mini Polly Pocket. See the dolphin shape in the "water"? Too bad. That was the cutest part. Aside from the fact that the whole boat comes out and is a ring that you can wear! Score!!
Perhaps Polly Pockets are where my love of super cute miniature things came from. I can't seem to recall a time when I didn't love love love teeny tiny things.
