Black & Whites

I think my favorite part of baking is when it's over and I have something edible. Not that I'm a chronic bad baker, or even that I hate baking...but my cooking skills usually lie more on instinct and improvisation. Baking is so specific with measurements and cooking times. It gets a little tedious sometimes. You really have to stick to the task at hand. I get bored sometimes and wander off. Forgetting to grease a pan is my forte. If I come out of a baking session with something pretty, then I'm happy. If it tastes good? Even better.

Last night I made a big batch of black & white cookies. I've never made them before and was a little nervous. I hate hate hate wasting ingredients and my time. So if I try a new recipe, by god, it better come out edible or there's hell to pay. I scoured the interwebs for the perfect recipe, that would *hopefully* taste the most authentic. Annie's Eats seemed to have a tasty sounding one...and her pictures looked the best. Honestly, pictures are everything when it comes to me picking and choosing recipes online.

I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the whole process went. I thought for sure I'd mess up the frosting, but all of her instructions were clear and thorough.

In the end, I came out with 10 million monster-sized black & white cookies. Well, actually 2 dozen to be exact, but it looks like 10 million when they're the size of your head.

And they were delish.

I think the reason you don't like baking is because you're too creative for it. You can't tweak that oven temperature to 357 or 405 and eye up the baking soda, etc. You're too creative to follow exact directions.

haha, you're so right. I think that's why I love stir fry's and soups. I can throw all kinds of random things together and it usually makes something tasty.
